an event by the German Federal Cultural Foundation
in cooperation with Hellerau – European Center for the Arts Dresden and DIEHL+RITTER
Artistic Direction: Meg Stuart
In recent years the Tanzkongress, which is the recipient of lighthouse funding from the German Federal Cultural Foundation, has developed into one of the most important events, networking opportunities and places of reflection on the German dance scene. For 2019 the foundation has assigned the artistic direction of the congress to the renowned choreographer Meg Stuart, thus strengthening the experimental and international character of this event. Stuart is well known for her boundary-pushing and thematically varied works, and for her innovative improvisational and collaborative formats. For the Tanzkongress 2019 she is developing an experimental gathering – inspired by the utopian setting of the Festspielhaus Hellerau – that will take a communal and praxis-based approach to contemporary questions of dance. The project management is taken over by Jana Bäskau from DIEHL+RITTER.
Apart from the gathering from 5 to 10 June at the Festspielhaus Hellerau, the Tanzkongress 2019 also consists of salons around the world to prepare its content, satellite events in Dresden prior to the meeting, which introduce its ideas and concepts to the public in the form of workshops, concerts and lectures, and an open, curated event in which the participants of the Tanzkongress and the Dresden audience come together.
